Plumber Power Ups

I hadn’t been a huge fan of Red Mushroom Man’s plan to get his friend Marion the plumber to help with our Trowser problem, but when Princess Plum walked into the armoury accompanied by Green Mushroom Man, I knew something had gone terribly wrong.

“Blue, get me a bag filled with power-ups, pronto,” said the princess. “I’m going on an adventure.”

My jaw dropped open. Never in our history, hundreds of years old, had the ruler of the kingdom taken a crisis into their own hands. To be honest, I kind of liked the idea. It was about time our rulers stopped getting themselves kidnapped and toughened up. Did we really need some plumber whose greatest achievement was completing drain repairs for Brighton homes to save us from the evil turtle monster?

“Yes, princess,” I said with a firm nod. “Right on it. I’m thinking some ice flowers will come in particularly helpful on this quest.”

“I agree,” said Princess Plum. “Make sure to pack me one of those giant mushrooms, too.”

While the princess and I went through items that would be helpful for stopping Trowser the giant, fire-breathing turtle, Green Mushroom Man stared at us both with his fists clenched.

“Aren’t you forgetting something, princess?”

She stopped, lowering her eyebrows at him. “What?”

“The plumber! He’ll be here with Pink Mushroom Girl any minute now! This guy is a real professional. He has worked with some of the best drainage contractors Melbourne has to offer.”

“Oh,” the princess said, offering a brief nod. “Right. Blue, I guess we’ll need to pack him some power-ups too. A handful of mushrooms and a fire flower should do.”

I sighed. “So, this plumber is getting involved after all.”

“Well, it would be rude to send him home without the adventure we promised him,” said Green Mushroom Man. “Besides, it’s probably best that the princess doesn’t face Trowser unaccompanied, isn’t it, Blue Mushroom Man?”

I had to admit he was probably right about that. Princess Plum could take care of herself, but Trowser was a fierce foe. At least this way she’d have some backup.

“Fine,” I said. “I’ll pack him a bag, too.”
