Utes For Businesses
As a small business owner, people often think I spend most of my time working at my store. They could not be more wrong! I actually spend most of my time on the road transporting goods to customers. I could use an independent delivery service but I honestly prefer keeping it in-house. It helps to save costs, and I’ve built such a great rapport with all the customers. I am, of course, aware that as the business grows I will no longer be able to deliver this level of personal service. I have a ute that I use to transport the goods to each customer. As my business has scaled…

My Dwindling Eyes
I know it’s not uncommon for elderly people to start experiencing problems with their eyes as they age. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. Two years ago I was diagnosed with cataracts in my eyes. Cataracts are essentially a cloud that develops over the eye’s lens. This cloud causes problems such as blurred vision. There are a few ways to deal with cataracts, but my optometrist said before we opt for any surgical procedures, we would simply monitor how the cataracts were developing. I’ve been having regular eye tests every year since the diagnosis of my cataracts. I have also started becoming heavily reliant on my glasses. This…

New Bathtub Planning
‘Oh, Harold, isn’t this marvellous?’ Lucinda giggled, twirling around their freshly-renovated bathroom with a smile. ‘It’s nice,’ he said, forcing himself to smile as he gazed around at the gleaming tiles and gilded fixtures. ‘What’s wrong?’ she asked him immediately. Twenty years of marriage stripped away any hint of inner mystery – she could read him like a picture book. ‘I’m just…’ he started, then waved her off with a sigh. ‘No, forget it,’ he said. ‘There’s no need to waste any thought on it, dearest.’ ‘Come now,’ she swept over to him, grasping him by the hand. ‘You know you can…

Shoulder Surgery Success
I’m back, gentlemen! This blog has been dead silent without me – don’t think I haven’t been checking! Well, having my granddaughter check for me. Her mother is so technologically illiterate, she couldn’t be trusted not to delete this whole site off the internet! My doctor has given me the all-clear, says that I’m recovering beautifully from my rotator cuff repair surgery in Melbourne last month. A bit more physio (and a whole lot more chicken soup) and who knows, my dream of bowling for the Australian team is still alive! I’m glad this whole affair is behind me now, and I…

Exciting Office Moment
I zipped through the rows of cubicles, a huge grin plastered to my face, mail cart barely kept in check in front of me. Skidding around a plump secretary and a plumper manager (from a different floor, scandalous), I built back up to another sprint, dodging the surprisingly nimble cart around many a worker. ‘Watch it!’ several of them grumbled in the exact same monotone, before slumping back into their well-designed commercial fitouts, Melbourne paper propped open to the same page, biting into identical tuna sandwiches. I’d always hated tuna. ‘Excuse me!’ I called out enthusiastically, in place of a horn I could really lean on. ‘Important delivery, excuse me!’…

Remembering Air Conditioning
Does anybody else on this forum remember what it used to be like when you were a kid? On those really hot days in the middle of an Australian summer? My mum was notorious in our house for just blasting that air conditioning as soon as the weatherman on the telly mentioned a number higher than twenty-five. My dad hated it! He would get home from work at 5:17 (on the dot, every day) and immediately storm over to the thermostat and turn down the air conditioning. Canberra probably heard him yelling! Those were the days… Now things are so much different since we basically only have summer now. It…

Plumber Power Ups
I hadn’t been a huge fan of Red Mushroom Man’s plan to get his friend Marion the plumber to help with our Trowser problem, but when Princess Plum walked into the armoury accompanied by Green Mushroom Man, I knew something had gone terribly wrong. “Blue, get me a bag filled with power-ups, pronto,” said the princess. “I’m going on an adventure.” My jaw dropped open. Never in our history, hundreds of years old, had the ruler of the kingdom taken a crisis into their own hands. To be honest, I kind of liked the idea. It was about time our rulers stopped getting themselves kidnapped and toughened up. Did we…

Never believe it
I’ve been a tradie for the last ten years. Thanks to my great work, excellent customer service, and high attention to detail, I have built a reputation that is unparalleled within the industry. In the last ten years, I have fast become the go-to tradie in my area. Unfortunately, this notoriety does come at a cost. There are a few tradies who have decided to team up against me and try to steal work from me. Luckily, my clients are incredibly loyal and have informed me whenever one of these other tradies have reached out to…

Arch Support Lesson
I sat down on the edge of my bed, grimacing as I slid my shoes off. My feet – red, warm and clinging to my socks like they were attached – ached at the pressure and movement. I quickly lifted them off the ground, hovering the soles above my thin carpet. ‘You should have sprung for the shoes with arch supports,’ my mum said from the doorway, eyebrow raised in silent judgement above the pile of laundry she was carrying. ‘I thought I had,’ I grumbled back at her, collapsing onto my bed with a sigh. ‘I think that guy in…

Reluctant Podiatrist Appointment
I recently bought new shoes online and I have to say – amazing idea! No regrets! They fit my feet perfectly, with barely any pinching at all. Well, when I say barely, I obviously mean a lot. But for an online purchase, I think I did pretty well! My husband has been really negative on my journey, but he’s always struggled to see my visions as reality, like I do on a daily basis. I try to tell him it’s about manifestation, but he just keeps going on and on about the amount of blood spilling out of my shoes. It’s…
